Cars and Tents

A few nights ago we had our very first "movie night" as a family. J is a morning person, so he's spent pretty much all of his life without a "nightlife." To get ready, J took a short nap in the afternoon, then we set the stage for this new event. We got the Cars dvd (a cartoon movie about racecars). J chose the ice cream flavor.

Since the beginning of summer we've been talking about J and L having a campout in the back yard. Well, winter is on the horizon now and we knew that we'd better get the campout in as well. All on the same night.

We like to multi-task.

That afternoon, J dressed in his Superman outfit and helped prepare the campsite. Evidently, it takes super human strength to perform these tasks. First, he mowed a spot nice and smooth.

Then, he chopped a good stack of firewood.

Finally, they set up the tent.

Next was supper, the movie with ice cream, and then bedtime. Though they looked warm and cozy, I insisted on stocking hats, which a certain naysayer thought unnecessary. Apparently the temperature dipped down enough toward morning that my nagging suggestion was appreciated by both tent dwellers.

I think we'll do movie night again next month. And bedtime? I believe that will be on proper mattresses with the benefit of heat!
