Sorry for the huge gap in posts! L was teaching a 4-week class at church and I did my best to help him. There were a lot of images and I'm the "computer person" around here.
We still managed to get the homeschooling done, however. Last week we looked at Thomas Gainsborough. He was a very popular portrait painter during the 1700s. You'll recognize one of his more famous works:
According to our lesson book:
"Gainsborough preferred to paint what might be called fancy landscapes, that is, landscapes that were more ideal and imaginary than real. He would often include the portraits of people as part of the fancy landscape."
J was up to the task of "imaginary landscape." He decided on an under-the-sea motif with the portraits in their snorkeling outfits. My favorite is how the diver is being attacked by the octopus.
Riveting, don't you think? Such drama. Such emotion.
