Moving on to Greece

Having explored all things Egyptian (for now, anyway), we're on to Greece. They, too, had all sorts of stories and legends and a whole bunch of gods. Silly Greeks. But, since so much of our culture and literature makes reference to the stories and the sayings, etc. from ancient Greece, it's important to become familiar enough to understand those references.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are very interesting to learn about. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were touched on when we were studying that time period. Another ancient wonder was the Colossus of Rhodes. It was about a third of the size of the Statue of Liberty and stood near the harbor. It was destroyed in an earthquake about 50 years after being built. If you'd like to learn more, HERE is an interesting site that discusses the 7 Wonders of many categories.

Recently, J was reading a book about the Seven Wonders to L. They got to the Colossus and Daddy, being the fan of wordplay that he is, gave J an idea. J is also a fan of wordplay. Off J ran to his desk. A few minutes later he returned with this illustration:

The date is a little off, but the details are spot-on. At the bottom is the finding of the boots in the discovery phase. The large picture at the top is the restored statue. Of course, any artifact raised from centuries of being underwater would show some wear and tear.
