Pepping up plain sentences


I decided to test J using the free placement tests at Calvert School. One particular section showed the above picture.

The directions said, "On a separate piece of paper, have your child write a four to five sentence paragraph about the picture." I read the directions to J. Either he wasn't quite sure what a paragraph was, or he just needed to release the poetry in his soul:


There is snow everywhere.
A boy is making a snowman. There!
The pile of rocks he'd better beware.
'Cause they're the home of a polar bear.
